Katie Frazier

Katie Frazier, a native of Decatur, AL, has been a member of the Tennessee Valley Winds since 2008 and began serving as Vice President of the TWV Board of Directors in 2009. In 2015 she was elected President of the Board.

Katie graduated in 2006 from Harding University with a B.A. in Music Education. She is certified for K-12 music education, with specialization in instrumental music. Mrs. Frazier played oboe and English horn with the HU Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, performed with the Arkansas All-Collegiate Band in 2005, received the 2006 Outstanding Music Department Student and Outstanding Student in Secondary Education awards, and studied privately with Gerry Gibson (Arkansas Symphony Orchestra). In addition to playing oboe, Katie served as drum major for the Thundering Herd for two years, sang with the HU Concert Choir for one year and the HU Chorus for two years, and traveled to Europe for the 2006 HU Chorus Campaign.

After graduating from college, Mrs. Frazier taught elementary general music and 6th-12th grade bands for one year in Bradford, AR. In 2007 Katie and her husband moved to Murfreesboro to teach at Middle Tennessee Christian School and continue their education. She taught PK3, TK, and Kindergarten general music, and directed the 5th-12th grade bands at MTCS for eight years. The MTCS faculty named Mrs. Frazier Jr. High Teacher of the Year in 2009 and Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2010. She graduated in 2010 from MTSU with a M.A. in Music Education.

Currently, Katie teaches oboe lessons throughout middle Tennessee. Mrs. Frazier plays oboe and English horn with the Tennessee Valley Winds and Woodwind Quintet. She has held membership in MTSBOA, TBA, TMEA, and the NAFME. Aside from her musical endeavors, Mrs. Frazier enjoys traveling sports, reading, and photography. Katie and her husband, Shawn, are active members of the North Boulevard church in Murfreesboro.
